Last stop: Strasbourg / 21.10.17

Vaikka olisin halunnutkin nähdä tämän tunnetun joulutapahtuman, on ehkä turvallisempaa etsiä joku toinen kohde jouluiselle kierrokselleni.

The last stop of our trip was in Strasbourg, France. There we spent a few hours doing tourist stuff, just checking out the main parts of the city. By this point of our journey we were pretty exhausted and the unstable weather kept us on our toes, but we managed to walk around with our heavy backpacks surprisingly well. Strasbourg was nice, not as nice as Colmar but still a lovely city. The old houses were very similar to the ones in Colmar, just not quite as colorful. There was a river too, and along the riverbank a cold and wet rat. Yep, it sure didn't give the best first impression of the city.

For a good while we spent our time looking through cafes, trying to find equally as delicious eclaires as Colmar had had. In the end we were so sick of looking that we just bought some from a supermarket, definitely not the most delicious experience. Thankfully just before we left, we found a nice cafe in a shopping center that had huge macaroons, and they were amazing! That definitely lifted our spirits and prepared us for the long journey home.

I had hoped to visit Strasbourg again for its well-known Christmas market. I've seen so many pictures and heard great things about it. But walking through the town square I think I had a change of heart. If it was packed full of tourists now, then it will be a thousand times worse when the fairy lights and Christmas tree go up. Although I really wanted to see the Christmas market in particularly this city, I think its safer to look elsewhere for my Christmassy feeling.

  1. Oi, ihana Strasbourg! Itse kävin kyseisessä kaupungissa muutama vuosi sitten juurikin joulumarkkinoiden aikaan ja oli itseasiassa yllättävän hyvä kokemus :)

    1. Ihana kuulla! Olisi kiva käydä, mutta suuret ihmismassat vähän ahdistaa. Yleensä haluan vaan äkkiä pois tilanteesta :(
